The John J. Lanigan, Sr. Training Academy, along with Mi-Jack Products, developed the first apprenticeship program to address the total skills profile of heavy equipment professionals. Not just a classroom, the JJLSTA uses multimedia, laboratories with operating power plants, hydraulics and electrical systems, hands-on operational clinics, advanced simulators, and real, hands-on training. The Academy is right across the street from Mi-Jack Products’ manufacturing plant, affording convenient easy access to operating equipment and observation of Mi-Jack manufacturing techniques.

Apprenticeship Program Steps

Materials Coordinator

Verifies and maintains records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepares items for shipment.

Processing / Shipping

Verifies and maintains records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepares items for shipment.

Assembly Technician

Constructs, assembles, or rebuilds intermodal and industrial cranes and lifting machines.

Field Erection Technician

Installs, dismantles, or moves machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings.

Field Service Technician

Diagnoses, adjust, repairs, or overhauls mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.

Materials Coordinator

Verifies and maintains records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepares items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products.

Upon Completion of the program, you will receive:

  • Mi-Jack Certified Process / Shipping Technician
  • 2 pay bumps (one every 500 hour / 6 months) over the course of the program.
  • Placement in one of Mi-Jack’s regional parts service centers
  • Approximate Program Hours:
    2000 Hours (1 years)
  • Additional Required Related Training:
    40 Hours
  • Experience credit, up to 25% of program:
    3 months / 500 hours

Process / Shipping Technician

Verifies and maintains records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepares items for shipment. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products.

Upon Completion of the program, you will receive:

  • Mi-Jack Certified Process / Shipping Technician Certificate.
  • 2 pay bumps (one every 500 hour / 6 months) over the course of the program.
  • Placement in one of Mi-Jack’s regional parts service centers.
  • Approximate Program Hours:
    2000 Hours (1 years)
  • Additional Required Related Training: Hours
    40 Hours
  • Experience credit, up to 25% of program:
    3 months / 500 hours

Manufacture Assembly Technician

Constructs, assembles, or rebuilds intermodal and industrial cranes and lifting machines, such as Mi-Jack, Broderson, and similar equipment used in such industries as rail, construction, extraction, textiles, and manufacturing.

Upon Completion of the program, you will receive:

  • Mi-Jack Certified Assembly Technician
  • 4 pay bumps (one every 500 hour / 6 months) over the course of the program.
  • Placement in one of Mi-Jack’s regional parts service centers
  • Approximate Program Hours:
    4000 Hours (2 years)
  • Additional Required Related Training:
    80 Hours
  • Experience credit, up to 25% of program:
    6 months / 1000 hours

Machine Erector

Installs, dismantles, or moves machinery and heavy equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings. Aligns machines or equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, or plumb bobs. Assembles and installs equipment, using hand tools and power tools. Assembles machines, and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools. Attaches moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools. Bolts parts, such as side and deck plates, jaw plates, and journals, to basic assembly unit.

Upon Completion of this program, you will receive:

  • Mi-Jack Certified Field Erection Technician Certification
  • 6 pay bumps (one every 500 hour / 6 months) over the course of the program
  • Regional placement as a Mi-Jack Certified Crane Erection Technician
  • Approximate Program Hours:
    6000 Hours (3 years)
  • Minimum Required Related Training:
    180 Hours
  • Experience credit, up to 25% of program:
    months / 1500 hours)
